Our Product Suite

Built tough. Easy to use.

Out of the box, or outside the square.

We see our product suite as a platform for solving your problems.  We know that no two of our customers have exactly the same requirements, which is why we’ve designed the Basalt range to be so flexible.  Customisations to our products can be performed in a matter of weeks, not months.  Because we work with major suppliers, we can scale production up to thousands of units per month (even with your customisations).

Advanced sensors, smarter telemetrics

Basalt Barnacle

The Basalt Barnacle integrates a best-in-class GPS receiver, a Long Range (LoRa) radio transceiver and a range of different environmental sensors to provide telemetrics data in real time. An onboard cache allows the device to act as a data-logger in the field, passing the collected data off to the Sentinel when it returns to base.

The Barnacle’s long range radio enable it to communicate with the Sentinel Gateway at distances exceeding 2 – 3 kilometres.  In-the-field communication can be accomplished using the SigFox network, enabling asset location in near real-time (requires additional service contracts with SigFox).

The advanced U-Blox GPS modules supports the SBAS standard for improved resolution, enabling asset level resolution in high density environments (around 1m accuracy).

Geofences defined in Basalt Bridge can be transferred to the Barnacle, enabling detailed sensor measurements to be taken at specific pre-defined locations.

Because the Barnacle has a large on-board cache, it’s able to store detailed events logged in the field. This provides a powerful tool enabling customer to perform detailed off-site analysis of vibrations, temperature variations and other anomaly-events.

  • Bosch BME280 pressure, temperature and humidity sensor

Industry leading IoT gateway

Basalt Sentinel

The Basalt Sentinel is a powerful gateway which communicates with the rest of the Basalt range of products (and with products from many other vendors). It supports wired LAN, LTE and WIFI to communicate with the cloud, and is capable of ingesting data from devices use a large range of different communication protocols: Bluetooth (including BLE 5 for increased range), Long Range Radio (LoRa), WiFi. In LoRa mode, the Sentinel can receive data from Basalt Barnacles at multi-kilometre range.  Additional wireless communication protocols can be added as required.

The Sentinel is based on the OpenWRT operating system, which supports a robust suite of management products, enabling deployment at large scale, without a commensurate increase in operating costs.

Because OpenWRT is based on Linux, it allows us to leverage the full gamut of Open Source software – ensuring that on-site software can be customised and tuned to a users specific requirement.  If you need a specific scan frequency for  our Limpet Bluetooth Beacons, or if you want to capture additional meta-data to augment the data reported by our Barnacle sensors, the Sentinel makes it easy – all using industry standard toolchains and programming languages.

The Sentinel is based on a tried-and-tested Qualcomm SoC for optimum reliability and lowest possible power consumption.  This means we can install our gateways where others can’t (thanks to Solar charging, battery backup and support for Power over Ethernet).   A large onboard cache ensures that data won’t be lost, even if the network connectivity is down.

Data ingested into the Sentinel can either be processed by our Basalt Bridge software suite, or handed off to third-party legacy applications.  The Sentinel can be configured as a VPN client, enabling seamless integration with large WAN environments.

Standard Configuration

  • Qualcomm AR9331 SoC, 400MHz CPU, 64MB Ram, 32MB Flash (upgradable if required)
  • Quectel EC25 4G Modem, with regional adaptations available and tested for EU, USA, LatAm, NZ / AUS
  • 100Mbit RJ45, supporting PoE
  • 150Mbit WIFI (2.4Ghz)
  • IP67 rated polycarbonate enclosure, ensures long-lasting operation even in the toughest outdoor environments
  • Rated for use in temperatures of -20c to +60c
  • Bluetooth 5.2 with configurable scan interval for tracking BLE beacons

Optional Configuration

  • Battery backup for continuous operation (backed up with solar cell if required)
  • Expanded internal storage via SD Card

Flexible deployment and analysis software suite

Basalt Bridge

Basalt Bridge is the heart of our product suite.  It provides the deployment, analysis, management, reporting and alerting functions of our system, all wrapped up in an easy to use web interface.  The software can be cloud hosted by us, or deployed at a customer’s own data center.

It enables operators to configure all in-field devices, and has a very straight-forward deployment and provisioning tool which can be used by operators in the field to deploy all of our devices (and even devices from other vendors).  All our devices ship with a QR code, which provides a link to the device’s identify.  The Basalt Bridge provides a mobile interface which the in-field operator users to scan the QR code, and link it to the specific customer asset.  All meta-data related to that asset is configurable in the Basalt Bridge system.  Multiple asset types can be defined (with meta-data unique to each asset type), and existing assets can easily be imported into the system.

It features an advanced stochastic analysis front-end, which allows engineers to select time periods within data sets which represent out-of-spec, or anomalous data. Bridge then performs continual analysis of all incoming data streams, and identifies similar patterns in future data-sets.  An advanced incident reporting and alerting features ensures that the right people and teams are informed of these “anomaly events” as soon as they’re identified.

Because telemetric analysis lies at the heart of what we do, Basalt Bridge provides an advanced geo-fence configuration tool.  Users can quickly and simply define geofences, and associate actions and alerts to be performed when those geo-fences are triggered.   Basalt Bridge takes this further, by enabling sensor readings to be included in alert criteria, enabling sophisticated, targeted reporting.

Strong user role management tools provide the ability for customers to expose a subset of Basalt Bridge reports and functionality to their own customers.  Allowing them to subscribe to specific alerts based on the assets of interest to them.
